When a Professional Legal Representative's Intervention Is Necessary for Family Law Matters

A damaged relationship can result in serious consequences because either partner may lash out and cause harm. Furthermore, one of the parties might become violent, leading to a court order restricting time spent with the kids. The judge might also hand the violent partner a jail sentence, affecting their lives forever. For this reason, it is advisable to contact a professional family lawyer as soon as the relationship between you and your partner begins to deteriorate. The professional can help you resolve the most sensitive and difficult conflict areas in your case. A professional legal representative's intervention is necessary when handling the following family issues:

Preparing a Prenuptial Agreement

Property division is one of the most contentious issues you have to deal with in a judicial separation. It can lead to a fierce court battle as you and your partner determine which assets belong to whom. Therefore, it is important to prepare a prenuptial agreement before you start living together with your partner.

This agreement will indicate who gets to keep what if your marriage ends in divorce. In addition, it will help you to be aware of what you own as a couple, enabling you to make more informed decisions before you start living together. An experienced family lawyer can help you prepare a prenuptial agreement, ensuring that it's a legally binding document.

Helping to Ensure That Your Partner Pays Child Support

You and your partner should actively participate in your children's lives even after a divorce. This includes sending monetary payments to the parent living with the kids. Unfortunately, your partner may refuse to pay child support, perhaps to get back at you for a past grievance. If this happens, contact a lawyer who handles family issues immediately. They will negotiate with your ex to establish a child support payment plan to help cover your children's expenses.

Moreover, if this negotiation fails, your legal representative will file a case in court to help you get the payment you need. They will present and argue your case based on the law and the results of their investigation into your co-parent. The judge will listen to both parties before authorizing a child support payment plan.

The two issues above can be challenging to handle on your own, making it necessary to hire a family lawyer to help you resolve them as smoothly and amicably as possible. They will evaluate your case and help you get the best resolution to prevent conflicts in the future.

changing a child's last name after a divorce

When I began the divorce process, I knew that I wanted to change my name back to my maiden name. I no longer wanted to be associated with the family name of the man that I was divorcing. The problem was, I have three kids that all had their father's name. I wanted to know if I would be able to change their last names to my maiden name rather than having them carry that family's name for the rest of their lives. I found out a lot about what it would take and began working to create this blog to help other women wanting to do the same thing.
